Critical Infrastructure Protection • Facility Security • Threat Assessment • Private Investigation
Apex Operations Group provides industrial security, investigations, and tactical support services across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, operating through Black Ops Investigations, an Alberta-based agency established October 4, 2020.
Our team brings 26 years of industrial experience and 6 years of security experience, including field experience connected to major pipeline work, as well as peacekeeping operations with the Little Red River Cree Nation (LRRCN). We understand high-stakes infrastructure security, remote site operations, oil and gas, pipeline, utility, data centre, and construction environments, and the operational discipline required to maintain zero lost-time incidents on long-duration contracts under pressure.
Every operator deployed under our banner meets a non-negotiable standard: former law enforcement, military service, or equivalent demonstrated field experience. Zero lost-time incidents. Zero compromise.
Active security deployment across the 670km Dawson Creek to Kitimat corridor. One of Canada's most operationally and politically complex pipeline projects — now in commercial service.
Security operations on Canada's only twinned oil pipeline system running from Edmonton, Alberta to the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, B.C.
Peacekeeping operations with the Little Red River Cree Nation — requiring cultural awareness, restraint, and situational discipline that standard security contractors are not equipped to handle.
Every engagement is handled with full confidentiality, operational discipline, and a commitment to zero lost-time incidents on site. We protect your assets, your timeline, and your reputation.
Uniformed or plain-clothes static guard deployment at fixed posts. Qualified operators managing access points, monitoring perimeters, and maintaining a visible deterrent presence around the clock.
Licensed investigation services — covert surveillance, background checks, skip tracing, and corporate investigation conducted to a court-ready standard. Certified K-9 handler teams available for perimeter patrol and detection operations.
Professional gate operations with credential verification, visitor logging, and vehicle inspection. A controlled entry point is the single most effective measure against unauthorized access, theft, and liability exposure.
Immediate on-site response to unauthorized entry, equipment theft, and vandalism. Operators trained to de-escalate, detain where lawful, document thoroughly, and coordinate with law enforcement efficiently.
Scheduled and randomized vehicle patrol routes covering large-footprint sites, perimeter roads, and multi-building campuses. Unpredictable patrol patterns are a proven deterrent to opportunistic theft and trespass.
Pre-deployment site surveys identifying vulnerabilities before they become incidents. We deliver a written security plan with staffing requirements, recommended countermeasures, and technology deployment options.
Apex Operations Group maintains in-house procurement of surveillance, protective, and detection equipment through our tactical equipment division — eliminating third-party dependency and deploying a fully self-sufficient security operation on every contract.
Apex Operations Group works across the operating environments that define Western Canada's industrial landscape, from energy infrastructure and major construction through to remote camps and high-value equipment yards.
Static and mobile security coverage for industrial sites, energy infrastructure, utility yards, and major construction projects across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Built around sites where downtime carries a real cost.
Monitoring support along pipeline rights-of-way, remote access-point checks, and protection of staged equipment and materials. Coordination with lawful authorities where appropriate, backed by clear documentation.
Security support through every phase of a data centre project, from construction-phase access control and high-value equipment protection through to operational security planning once the facility goes live.
A focused response to one of the most consistent exposures on active sites, including substations, utility yards, telecommunications sites, and construction laydown areas. Deterrence patrols and access control, paired with equipment support through SMC Tactical.
After-hours patrols and access monitoring for remote camps, construction camps, and isolated industrial properties across Alberta and Western Canada, where the nearest response is measured in hours, not minutes.
A site visit before any contract begins identifies the issues that turn into real losses if they go unaddressed: weak access points, theft exposure, disruption risk, and gaps in coverage during off-hours. Every assessment looks at the site as it actually operates, not as a generic checklist.
Large infrastructure and energy projects can face disruption risk from a range of sources, including protests, blockades, and unplanned access issues. Our approach is built around lawful site protection, worksite continuity, and the safety of workers, contractors, and the public, not confrontation.
We support clients with access planning, documentation, communication support, and liaison with lawful authorities where appropriate, so that a disruption event is managed calmly and on the record.
We operate professional-grade thermal and multi-sensor aerial platforms capable of both manned pilot operations and fully autonomous scheduled patrol — launched, flown, and recovered without a pilot on site. Patrols can be triggered on a time schedule or activated automatically by a perimeter sensor alarm.
Thermal imaging detects human body heat at distance in total darkness, through smoke, and in adverse weather — conditions where conventional CCTV and foot patrols have blind spots. Every flight is logged with GPS coordinates and timestamped video delivered directly to the duty officer in real time.
On a large active site, a piece of staged equipment disappearing overnight is one of the easiest thefts to execute and one of the hardest to catch. A human guard patrolling on foot or by vehicle cannot maintain a continuous visual inventory of every asset across a large footprint — particularly after dark.
AI-assisted aerial surveillance changes that equation entirely. Each automated patrol flight builds a verified snapshot of site assets — equipment positions, vehicle counts, material staging — and flags any discrepancy against the previous flight.
"A piece of equipment staged at the north end of the lot at 1800h is gone by 0200h. No alarm tripped. No gate breach logged. The guard on the south post did not see it leave. The automated patrol flight at 2300h flagged the gap — asset missing from its logged position. Security was notified before the theft was even complete. That is the difference between a recovered asset and a $40,000 insurance claim."
Real-world demonstration of autonomous drone patrol operations — AI-assisted detection, tracking, and counting of personnel, vehicles, and vessels in active environments.
Our aerial platforms are capable of high-resolution photogrammetric 3D mapping — generating accurate three-dimensional models of the site from aerial imagery. Executed periodically throughout the project life by guards already on location, this produces a progressive visual record from ground-break through active construction to final reclamation.
3D site mapping as a standalone service requires a dedicated contractor — sourcing, vetting, scheduling, mobilizing, and managing a separate company for a task that now gets done by the security team already on location.
As a contracted add-on to an existing security deployment, the cost is a fraction of what an independent survey contractor would invoice for the same deliverable. The operators are already there. The equipment is already deployed.
"You are not paying for a separate mobilization, a separate site orientation, or a separate contractor relationship. You are paying a modest add-on rate to a team that is already on your site, already cleared, already familiar with the layout — and getting a project documentation deliverable that stands on its own."
A deployable network of covert wireless motion detection sensors covering fence lines, access trails, remote entry points, and blind-spot approach corridors. Battery-powered, tool-free installation, fully camouflage-capable — no wiring, no infrastructure, no visible footprint on the ground.
Operationally proven on the Coastal GasLink project in British Columbia, where sensors were deployed covertly along deer trails through dense forest — providing security personnel 30 to 60 seconds of advance warning before an unauthorized approach reached the site perimeter.
Rapid-deploy mobile CCTV covering entry points, equipment staging areas, parking, and perimeter zones. Self-contained units that are operational within hours of arriving on a new site — no fixed infrastructure, no civil work, no lead time.
Remote monitoring via encrypted connection gives the duty officer and client stakeholders eyes on the site from anywhere. Solar-capable configurations extend deployment to remote sites with no power infrastructure.
We source, own, and operate our own security and surveillance hardware through our dedicated tactical equipment division — eliminating third-party rental dependency, reducing deployment timelines, and ensuring every piece of equipment is maintained to operational standards before it reaches your site.
Through related company SMC Tactical, Apex Operations Group extends equipment procurement support to other security companies, industrial clients, and project stakeholders, not only to our own deployed teams. SMC Tactical supplies body armour, protective equipment, radios, optics, cameras, uniforms, tactical equipment, field gear, and remote-site support equipment to law enforcement, military, and security professionals across Canada.
Beyond direct site security, Apex Operations Group supports other security companies, industrial clients, and project stakeholders with confidential research and planning work, including opportunity research, site-risk intelligence, pursuit planning, and capability positioning. All engagements are handled under confidentiality, with no client or project information shared outside the engagement.
For industrial security, infrastructure protection, remote-site security, threat assessment, tactical procurement, or security partnership discussions, Apex Operations Group can provide a confidential capability discussion and assess project fit.
We do not hire general security labour and issue them a uniform. Every operator is individually vetted and meets our minimum standard before any client deployment. No exceptions.
Former RCMP, municipal police, and provincial law enforcement. Trained in use of force, evidence handling, legal authority, and professional documentation to a court-ready standard.
Canadian Armed Forces veterans with operational deployment experience. Discipline, situational awareness, and performance under pressure are baseline expectations — not differentiators.
All operators hold current Alberta Security Licences. Site-specific certifications including Oil & Gas safety tickets, first aid, and equipment operation are verified prior to every deployment.
Every operator executes a confidentiality agreement prior to any client engagement. Information about your site, your operations, and your personnel is never disclosed.
Timestamped, detailed incident reports on every deployment — prepared to a standard that holds up under legal, insurance, and regulatory review.
Zero lost-time incidents and zero security breaches on monitored sites. That record is the product of selection, training, and operational discipline — maintained on every contract we take on.
All inquiries are handled with full confidentiality. We respond within one business day. For urgent requirements, call directly.
